After 14 years, Second Opinion returns to the stage to help The Fiddle celebrate its 40the season!
From 1988 – 2001, Betsy Clinton, Pat Madden and Sally Potter delighted Midwest audiences with well-crafted arrangements of strong material chosen from all genres under the folk music umbrella.
Interesting songs from such writers as Tom Paxton, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Si Kahn, Charlie King, Pete Seeger, Kitty Donohoe, The Wyrd Sisters, Alison Krauss, and Second Opinion’s own Pat Madden, were skillfully arranged and presented with tight, intricate harmonies, either a cappella or accented with a combination of guitar(s) and/or banjo.
While each member held down a ‘day job,’ “The Opinions” toured on weekends, going west to the Twin Cities, Chicago, and Madison, south to Kerrville, and east to the Owen Sound, Clearwater and Kent State Folk Festivals, to name a few stops.
Over twelve years, Second Opinion recorded and released four CDs: “Second Opinion,” “Just a Little Closer,” “Last Rose,” and “Final Stop” (a live recording of their last show). The band also gave annual Ten Pound Fiddle concerts to packed houses. While folk fans all over the Midwest knew their music, Greater Lansing has always been home.
In January, 2001, over 800 fans saw Second Opinion’s “Final Stop” in a sold-out East Lansing High School auditorium. The evening was spent singing favorite Second Opinion songs for and with the audience.
Betsy, Pat and Sally look forward to sharing a set of these songs, again, with the Ten Pound Fiddle community, on Friday, April 24.
“The hearts of the ones who inherit your lives
Rest in the truths you have spoken
Memory will echo the trust you have made
And like you, it will never be broken.”
